YI has been running creative workshops - in art venues such as Contact Theatre, libraries and HOME, as well as community groups. since 2006

YI’s first cohort of young poets now run One Mic Stand at contact theatre. A Popular quarterly poetry slam night.

YI has collaborated with luminaries such as Lemn Sissay, Kate Tempest, and Linton Kwesi Johnson via a range of innovative projects.

YI poets also promote and deliver One Mic Stand a Quarterly Spoken Word Slam.  This outstanding event also has an open Mic and High calibre guests artists.  The vent is held at Contact and draws an expectant 120 people regularly to a sizzling nights entertainment.

Wordsmith and Young Identity together also host Ode.  A monthly open mic night platform with opportunities for manchester ever burgeoning hotbed of young poets can gain longer slots by rocking the audience.  Ode also have a live Jam band Ode:eep and guest music and poetry acts.

Founded by Nicole May, AndWhat TV is a contemporary spoken word channel, based in Manchester. AndWhat TV aims to be a catalyst that brings diverse voices and communities together locally, nationally and globally through spoken word performances.

We are striving to be a go to resource for professionals teaching in education and fans of spoken word.
